62 families in Puerto Princesa evacuate due to flooding


The Puerto Princesa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported on Wednesday, December 20, that 62 families or 244 individuals from the city have fled their homes due to flooding caused by heavy rains spawned by a low-pressure area (formerly tropical depression “Kabayan).

It said that 59 families or 235 individuals were from Barangay Luzviminda but have returned to their homes as the flooding subsided. But it added that 13 families are still sheltered at the mini city hall.

Vehicles were stranded as flooding which affected several parts of the city lasted for several hours. However, flooding receded before dawn Wednesday.

Two houses were reportedly totally damaged in Barangay Luzviminda and three families or nine persons from Barangay San Miguel temporarily evacuated but have since returned to their homes.
