Phivolcs said it is expecting a "destructive" tsunami with "life-threatening" wave heights.

"Based on the local tsunami scenario database, it is expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits," said Phivolcs.

Phivolcs forecast the arrival of the first tsunami waves that may last for hours and will occur from 10:37 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Phivolcs "strongly" advised the individuals near the coast of Surigao Del Sur and Davao Oriental to "immediately" evacuate to more elevated areas or go inland.

Phivolcs also advised boat owners to secure their boats situated on the coast and to move farther from the waterfront.

"Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised," aid Phivolcs.
