Mining company donates P500,000 to Davao Oriental State U

DAVAO CITY – A mining firm operating in Davao Oriental has donated an additional P500,000 educational assistance for students of Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) on November 30.

DorSU President Dr. Roy Ponce, who personally received the check, said the amount is already the second tranche of Hallmark Mining Corp.’s educational sponsorship that could benefit around 200 college students who are not covered by the Free Higher Education program.

Ponce said Hallmark Mining Corp. initially gave P1 million last September 15.

“In addition to the financial support, the sponsor will provide comprehensive assistance by covering all educational expenses, including tuition, school fees, and any associated charges as determined by the university,” DorSU said on Facebook.

Ponce thanked the mining firm their unwavering support to DOrSU.

Hallmark Mining Corp. is one of two firms operating a nickel mine project outside the Mount Hamiguitan Wildlife Range Sanctuary protected area in Barangay Macambol in City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

Each company holds a 5,000-hectare Mineral Sharing Production Agreement (MPSA) that straddles across the City of Mati and towns of Gov. Generoso and San Isidro, also in Davao Oriental.

Ponce has been proposing a collaborative effort with the mining firm in forest regeneration projects in mined out areas.
