Police identified the alleged leader of the "Bayawak Group" as Gelbirth “Boss Bay” Albios Puerto, 30, a resident of Kaunlaran Horseshoe Drive, Cavite City.

Based on the police report, operatives of QCPD Special Operation Unit (DSOU), Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), Cavite Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), Las Piñas City Police Station (CPS) and Bacoor City Police Station (BCPS) conducted a surveillance operation against “Boss Bay.”

Operatives later saw Puerto riding a motorcycle in front of Nazareth Compound in Barangay Molino 3, Bacoor City, Cavite at around 1:30 a.m., QCPD said.

Upon sensing the police officers tailing him, the suspect halted his motorcycle, pulled out his firearm and fired at the lawmen, triggering a shootout.

The suspect died during the gunfight with the police operatives.

Police said Puerto's group was involved in gun-for-hire activities and robbery-holdup incidents in spas and convenience stores in National Capital Region (NCR) and Region 4A.

Operatives recovered from the scene a .45-caliber pistol with one magazine loaded with live bullets, an extra magazine loaded with one bullet, six cartridges, and a motorcycle.
