DOH reiterates commitment to pursue climate health agenda at COP28
The Department of Health (DOH) reiterated its commitment to pursuing a climate health agenda as it led the Philippine delegation at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, Dec. 2, the DOH emphasized the Philippines' commitment to addressing issues related to climate change and public health.
“The Philippines, through the DOH, shall remain committed to pursuing the climate health agenda," Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa said.
"We aim to protect countless Filipino lives through comprehensive research endeavors to address data gaps, timely actions to tackle climate-related health impacts, utilization and adaptation of innovative efforts, and integrated health financing mechanisms,” he added
.
Alongside 123 other member states, the Philippines rallied behind the climate and health declaration at COP28.
Herbosa also underscored the Philippines' dedication to the climate health agenda, emphasizing the pivotal role of comprehensive research, timely actions, innovative approaches, and integrated health financing mechanisms.
The DOH highlighted that COP28, recognized as the United Nations Annual Climate Change Conference, serves as the world's primary multilateral decision-making forum on climate change.
The conference fosters global collaboration, encouraging the participation of nearly every country, particularly member states of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The conference agenda centered on urgent issues, including the escalating global temperatures, adapting vulnerable communities to climate change consequences, and striving for zero-net emissions by 2050.
Herbosa and other Health officials attended the conference, which gathered thousands of participants from various countries.
DOH mentioned that the Climate and Health Declaration was announced through the Leader's Event: Putting Health at the Center of the Climate Agenda.
The declaration signifies a united effort to align climate action and address gaps in progress.
In a groundbreaking move, member countries, including the Philippines, collectively pledged a staggering $1 billion to advance the global climate health agenda.
This substantial financial commitment, DOH said, underscores the shared responsibility to combat climate change's far-reaching impacts on public health.
As the COP28 proceedings unfold, the international community eagerly anticipates collaborative efforts to implement and uphold the commitments outlined in the climate and health declaration.
The health agency stressed that the Philippines stands at the forefront, showcasing its dedication to a sustainable and resilient future for its citizens and the global community.
Moreover, Herbosa, alongside other DOH officials, actively engaged in discussions, joining thousands of delegates from across the globe.
