Police identified one of the victims as Antomark Cacho, 24, of Barangay Tapi.
The name of his 17-year-old girlfriend was withheld.
Police Capt. Joelan Vinson, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the truck overlapped into the opposite lane in an attempt to possibly overtake but the 35-year-old truck driver failed to notice the approaching motorcycle covered by another truck, resulting into a head-on collision.
Vinson said the motorcycle driven by Cacho was on its way to the city proper from Barangay Tapi while the truck driver was driving home when the accident happened.
The victims were not wearing helmets and suffered severe injuries, Vinson said.
Cacho was declared dead in a hospital while his girlfriend passed away hours later.
Vinson said the truck driver was released from police custody on Thursday night, following a settlement with the victims’ families.
