Fredy Ong named Unilever PH new CEO, chairman


Multinational consumer goods firm Unilever Philippines has appointed Fredy Ong as its new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) replacing Benjie Yap.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Dec. 20, Unilever said that Ong will remain to be the Head of Unilever Philippines Customer Development concurrent to his position as Chairman and CEO.

Yap, who was also the General Manager for Southeast Asia of Unilever Beauty and Wellbeing, will serve as the new Head of Country of Unilever Indonesia, concurrent to his role as General Manager of Unilever Home Care in Indonesia.

Ong was the former Vice President for Customer Development of Unilever Philippines in 2017. Prior to that, he was the Country Director of Unilever Cambodia.  

Ong, a member of the Unilever Philippines National Board, was cited for his 30 years worth of experience in the company with his humble beginnings in the Planning and Logistics group. He subsequently moved to multiple Customer Development sectors such as Customer Marketing, Operations, Modern Trade, and Area Management.

He became the Customer Development Director and Executive Committee member of Unilever-RFM Ice Cream, Inc., then served as Modern Trade and Local Modern Trade Director for the Homecare, Personal Care, and Foods business.
