There are no plans from the House leadership to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte upon the resumption of session early next year.
Speaker Martin Romualdez made this clarification in an interview Tuesday, Dec. 19 following his four-day trip to Japan wherein he accompanied President Marcos in the 50th ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit.
"Wala kaming plano po saka wala pang nakalatag na ano, complaint kaya wala pong--bakit naman ginagawan ng isyu," said Romualdez, leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
(We don't have plans and complaint has been filed yet--why is this being made into an issue.)
Congress--composed of the House of Representatives and the Senate---officially began its five-day holiday last Dec. 16. The next session won't take place until Jan. 22, 2024.

Although the impeachment process begins at the House and not the Senate, a House member cannot file an impeachment complaint to launch the process. He or she may only endorse a complaint once it is filed by an outsider.
"Hindi naman nag umpisa sa atin (It doesn't start with us)," said Romualdez , Leyte’s 1st district representative.
Romualdez and VP Duterte were former party-mates at Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD). However, the latter left the party earlier this year amid a squabble in the House leadership involving Pampanga 2nd district Rep. and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
