Policemen save hit-and-run victim in Antipolo City

A team of policemen assigned as bomb squad members saved an elderly woman who was a victim of a hit-and-run incident on a highway in Antipolo City recently.

The office of Capt. Jeyama Cariaso, head of the Rizal Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU), said the timely arrival of the policemen also resulted in the arrest of the motorcycle-riding suspect.

Staff Sgt. Froilan Castillo, Jr., one of the members of the Rizal Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU), told Manila Bulletin that he and his fellow policemen were in their vehicle heading back to their headquarters in Taytay after coming from an assignment in Rodriguez when they spotted the commotion on Lilac Street in Barangay Mayamot around 11 p.m. on Dec 16.

The EOD and K9 policemen saw the woman, identified as a certain Jesicca, lying on the road. She was hit by a motorcycle driven by a man.

Castillo said they immediately sought assistance from the Rizal Police Provincial Office which in turn coordinated the emergency situation to the concerned rescue personnel of the local government of Antipolo City.

The victim was rushed to a hospital.

The policemen later arrested the suspect after concerned citizens blocked his path. He was turned over to the Antipolo Police Station.
