Mayor Honey orders daily flushing of city streets

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan ordered the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) on Tuesday, Dec. 19, to conduct daily flushing operations on busy streets to ensure safety and cleanliness.
The mayor expects a surge in the number of pedestrians as Christmas draws near.
Manila DRRMO Head Arnel Angeles and Department of Public Services (DPS) Chief Kayle Nicole Amurao will spearhead the flushing operations.
MDRRMO and DPS teams also conducted flushing operations last Friday at Recto-Divisoria area and will cover all other Christmas shopping areas such as Quiapo and Blumentritt.
According to Lacuna-Pangan, the purpose is to prevent diseases brought on by a polluted environment and ensure that the public is protected from the dangers of slippery roads caused by the build-up of dirt that turns into mud.
Meanwhile, the local chief executive urged those going to shopping areas to always remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
The mayor assured the public that members of the Manila police will be deployed to all Christmas shopping areas in the city.
She also called on the shoppers to avoid wearing expensive jewelry and not to bring their kids to crowded places as this may only pose an inconvenience to them and their children.
According to police reports, reports on missing children are one of the common incidents that add to the problems of authorities whose main job is to maintain peace and order in crowded areas.
