The Phillips brothers continued to live and relish the dream as they accomplished winning a championship together with De La Salle in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament earlier this month.

The brotherhood, which was one of reigning UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao’s reasons for staying with the Green Archers, was largely thanks to all three Phillips in the roster.
Mike, the youngest of the Phillips, only had good things to say as they pursued college ball in the Philippines.
The Season 84 Mythical Five was one of the key players in La Salle’s three-game championship series that gave the school its 10th title in the UAAP.
“Ever since we got here in the Philippines, it’s always been a thing of God, God brought us together, God made this whole thing happen. Playing for all these things that are bigger than ourselves. It really bonds us together. The biggest thing I like about La Salle and Adidas, is not just us three brothers, but our brother Kevin. That’s just what I really love about the Philippines, it’s always that familial bond,” said Mike during the team’s meet-and-greet at the Adidas Brand Centre in Makati last Friday.
Isaiah, the middle brother, found himself reminiscing their time together playing high school basketball in the USA as he never imagined doing it again, only this time at a higher level.
“The moment was just surreal. We all played in high school together but we were never able to bring a championship all three of us together, so it kind of came back full circle. It’s just an amazing opportunity to just be able to share that moment with my brothers,” he said.
Like Ben, the oldest of the bunch, Isaiah is hoping to become a dual-sport athlete as he plans to compete as a boxer and eventually be given an opportunity to represent the Philippines in future competitions.
The 24-year-old Ben, on the other hand, has had a fruitful year, to say the least.
After kicking off the year playing for the Green Spikers in the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament, Ben joined the Gilas Pilipinas in its gold medal campaign in the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia all while pursuing his masters and doctorate degrees in La Salle.
Now about to celebrate the holidays back in Jacksonville, Florida, the Phillips were rewarded a championship title, a moment they will forever cherish together.
Ben has one year of eligibility left in the league and will be mulling over his decision to return for next year’s volleyball season.
“It was such a blessing and honor to kind of be one of the dual-sport athletes in the UAAP. So, I’m thankful for the OSD (Office of Sports Development) for allowing me to do that. Right now, I’m still kind of in body resting mode. I’m gonna take a few weeks to rest, then I’ll make my decision later. But it’s a wonderful team, on the rise. So, I’m looking forward to helping them to any way that I can,” Ben detailed.
“We’re just enjoying so much, the vacation mode started after the [championship] game. There’s so many alumni that reached out to us. We’re gonna go back to Jacksonville and have a Phillips reunion. We have so many Christmas traditions,” Mike concluded.
