Former ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio’s holiday festivities will have to be toned down for a bit as he now has a scheduled date for his long awaited rematch.

The Filipino superstar gets another crack at reigning ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks when The Home of Martial Arts breaks ground in Qatar on March 1 next year for ONE 166 inside Lusail Sports Arena.
“The Passion” hasn’t forgotten the sinking feeling of losing his 26 pounds of gold in front of his adoring fans when he dropped a decision to the Mash Fight Team affiliate back in December 2022 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
With the rematch set, Pacio plans to keep his focus on this rather early Christmas gift from the world’s largest martial arts organization.
“The holidays will have to be put on hold for me,” Pacio said.
“I’m excited for this rematch. You guys better look out for a better Joshua Pacio.”
Brooks will definitely face a different Pacio when they meet this time around.
After dropping his crown to the American martial artist,“The Passion’s” scale to the top started with a two-month excursion in the United States to work with some of the best camps out west.
He then made the biggest decision of his MMA career so far, leaving Team Lakay – the team that he’s been in since he turned professional – to join Eduard Folayang in the formation of Lions Nation MMA.
He then returned to the ONE Championship stage last October and he looked good as he outlasted the tough Mansur Malachiev, beating the Dagestani wrestler via split-decision in his return.
Now Pacio promises to be ready for Brooks in their second rodeo.
“I’m gonna take all my time preparing, working my butt off to make sure that I get that belt again,” he said.
“I feel like I’m more focused this time and I’m confident with what I’m doing because I have a team, I have this brilliant group of people that I can collaborate and brainstorm with, and we can talk about the things that I need entering this fight.”
ONE 166: Qatar will also showcase a clash of heavyweight contenders as red-hot Iranian star Amir Aliakbari — who is riding off a trio of knockout wins — takes on former ONE heavyweight king Arjan Bhullar of India.
The event will also play host to a battle between former ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title challengers as Yemeni-Saudi BJJ black belt Osamah Almarwai takes on former IBJJF World Champion Cleber Sousa of Brazil.
