PH Red Cross assists stranded passengers due to storm Kabayan
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Monday, Dec. 18 distributed hot meals and deployed volunteers to help passengers stranded at ports due to canceled sea trips caused by tropical depression Kabayan.

PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Gordon assured the passengers of continuous help from the organization with volunteers and food trucks sent to ports in Luzon and Visayas.
“Many of our countrymen are delayed returning home due to the typhoon. We sent volunteers and food trucks to the ports to accompany and distribute food to them,” he said.
The PRC helped 46 stranded passengers in Ubay Port in Bohol, while “hundreds” of passengers in Manila and Surigao Del Sur received hot meals.

A welfare desk was established in Surigao Del Sur for psychosocial support, and volunteers monitored the typhoon-affected areas.

The PRC chief extended his appreciation to the staff and volunteers of RC143 for monitoring the provinces along the path of the typhoon, even during the weekends.
“Our RC143 volunteers are on the ground assessing the needs of communities. They are trained to immediately report the situation of each community to our Operations Center for immediate humanitarian assistance,” Gordon added.
Moreover, PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang emphasized the organization’s efforts to preposition supplies, mobilize volunteers, and provide food, water, and medical care to restore essential needs during disruptions.
In a recent report, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said tropical depression Kabayan has weakened into a low pressure area at 3 p.m.
