DBM releases P5 B for BARMM development

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced the disbursement of a P5 billion budget aimed at rebuilding, rehabilitating, and developing conflict-affected areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In a statement, Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman said the DBM approved the release of a Notice of Cash Allotment on the said project, which is part of the Special Development Fund under the Republic Act 11054 or Organic Law for BARMM.

The fund will be released every year, covering 10 years of the said project starting from the ratification of the Organic Law for the region, which translates to a total of P50 billion.

“Sa pamamagitan ng pondong ito, umaasa po tayo na magtutuluy-tuloy ang pag-unlad ng BARMM. Hinding-hindi po bibitawan ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., ang pag-agapay sa BARMM, Lalo na sa transition process nito,” Pangandaman said.

[Through this fund, we are hoping that BARMM will continue to progress. The Marcos administration will not stop aiding the region, especially in its transition process.]

The fund was released following BARMM Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim’s submission of the cash program that contains the cash requirements and schedules for the programs, projects, and activities to be funded under the Special Development Fund.

Earlier, a financial aid of P80.6 billion for FY 2024 was proposed by Pangandaman to assure the government’s support for the peace and advancement efforts in the region.

The proposed budget incorporates the BARMM’s annual block grant of P70.5 billion; the Special Development Fund of P5 billion; and the the region’s shares in national taxes, fees, and charges of P5.1 billion.

“The Agenda for Prosperity of the government aims for a promising future for the country where no Filipino is left behind. And by all, we mean all Filipinos, including Muslim Filipinos,” the DBM chief stated.
