CA orders arrest of Yanson sibling for perjury, falsification of public documents

ILOILO CITY – The Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered the arrest of Emily V. Yanson for perjury and falsification of public documents after it ruled that she is not a stockholder of Ceres Transport Inc., one of the nine companies under the country’s largest bus conglomerate based in Bacolod City.

A decision penned by Associate Justice Rogelio Largo of the CA 19th Division based in Cebu City, a copy of which was obtained by Manila Bulletin, reversed the ruling of a lower court in Bacolod City that she is a stockholder of Ceres Transport Inc.

Largo's ruling also said that Emily Yanson committed perjury and falsification of public documents in her declaration as stockholder.

This is one of the cases that stemmed from the family dispute over the estate of patriarch Ricardo B. Yanson Sr. who died in 2015.

It resulted into the family being divided into two factions – matriarch Olivia, her son Leo Rey, and daughter Ginnette and Emily, Ricardo Jr., Roy, and Celina.

The ruling dated October 27, 2023 found out that Emily, as corporate secretary, falsified information sheets listing herself and sister Celina as stockholders and directors for the years 2017, 2018, and 2019 while delisting her mother Olivia as stockholder.

The CA ruled that Emily Yanson cannot declare herself and Celina as Ceres Transport stockholders simply with extrajudicial settlement deeds.

Instead, it ruled that corporate documents such as the stock transfer book and certificate of stock are valid documents to claim stock ownership.
