Police confiscated around 300 kilograms of "double dead" meat from a 45-year-old vendor at Blumentritt market in Manila on Sunday, Dec. 17.

The Manila Police District identified the suspect as Edler Zape, resident of Barangay Balong Bato, Quezon City.

According to the police report, concerned vendors noticed that the meats sold by the suspects were pale, smelly, and not firm.

The complainants immediately contacted the barangay officials to inspect the meats.

Authorities said the suspect failed to show necessary documents such as business and barangay permits to sell meat.

He was also insisting that the meat already looked like that when it was delivered to him from Bicol.

The confiscated double dead pork meat were turned over to the Manila-Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) office in Tondo, Manila for disposal.

Police arrested the suspect who is facing charges for violations of Republic Act 9296, Section 48 as amended by Republic Act 10536 or “The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines” and Republic Act 10611 Section 37 or "Food Safety Act of 2013."

Meanwhile, Manila VIB reminds the public to check carefully the meat they will buy this holiday season.
