Robbery suspect dies in QC shootout

A robbery suspect was killed in a shootout with operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Barangay Bagong on Thursday, Dec 14.

QCPD identified the slain suspect as Jerome Tangalan Vela, 24, resident of Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City.

Based on the police report, a certain Annabel Raijab reported to Police Station 13 that two men broke into their house in Brgy. Bagong Silangan, Quezon City at around 4 p.m. on Dec. 14 and stole their personal belongings.

PS 13 operatives responded and arrested one of the suspects, identified as Jommel Caparoso TabuÃ±ar, 27, in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City at around 8 p.m.

They recovered from him some of the stolen items during the operation.

The operatives then went to Agham St., Covenant Village, Barangay Bagong Silangan after a concerned citizen reported that Vela was seen there.

Upon their arrival in the area, the operatives spotted and approached Vela.

Vela, however, drew his gun and fired shots at the police officers.

The lawmen fired back, killing the suspect.

Investigators recovered at the scene the suspect's .38-caliber Armscor revolver loaded with four live ammunition,
a fired cartridge case, three 9mm fired cartridge cases, and the mountain bike of the victim.
