Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list Rep. Margarita "Migs" Nograles, the solon who is seeking the suspension of television network SMNI's operations, has shot down rumors that she is eyeing the mayor's seat in Davao City.

In her signature no-nonsense style, Rep. Nograles, who hails from Davao, dismissed the rumor even as she continued to take to task the controversial network.

"Contrary to the 'chismis' (rumor), I will not run for mayor of Davao, and I have no intention of engaging in politicking," she said.

"Walang away, so bakit kayo gumagawa ng away?...Wag magpabudol. Wag makinig sa chismis," added the assistant majority leader, and daughter the late Speaker and Davao congressman Prospero Nograles.

(There is no conflict here, so why are you people creating conflict?...Don't be fooled, don't listen these rumors.)

The current Davao mayor is Sebastian Duterte, son of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Despite blood relations, the Nograleses and Dutertes are long-time political rivals in Davao. However, the elder Duterte's ascension to Malacañang led to the consolidation of political forces in the city.

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is widely known as the founder of SMNI, is former president Duterte's spiritual adviser.

Rep. Nograles earlier filed House Resolution (HR) No.1499, which urged the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to halt the operations of SMNI. This, amid a high-profile House investigation on the various alleged franchise violations of the network.

The House of Representatives adopted HR No.1499 in plenary last Dec. 11, showing the sense of the 300-plus strong chamber in favor of the measure.

"I refuse to be exploited, used as a click bait, and stay in a place which is not in line with my values and morals. And I will continue to do my service, and programs, as this is my duty to the people despite the constant harassment and attacks to silence me," Rep. Npgrales said.
