Early morning Iloilo City fire kills 3


ILOILO CITY – Three people died in an early morning fire in Molo District here on Saturday, December 16.

An initial report from the Iloilo City Operations Center said the victims were found inside the house of Kagawad (councilor) Nestor Jetano of Barangay Habog-Habog Salvacion.

Authorities have yet to identify two of the three bodies as they were badly charred.

But Jetano said that they may belong to three members of his family who might have failed to get out of the house during the fire – his 65-year-old wife Elizabeth, 27-year-old son Niel Gabriel, and 10-year-old granddaughter.

Nestor said he and neighbors were helping his 91-year-old father-in-law evacuate during the fire.

An initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Iloilo City said 54 houses were razed in the fire.

The Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), said 53 families were evacuated to the nearby Baluarte Elementary School.
