DOTr, DOLE provide livelihood projects to 148 families displaced by EDSA Greenway project
The national government has provided livelihood package to around 148 residents and vendors in Quezon City and Makati that were displaced by the ongoing construction of the EDSA Greenways Project, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Saturday, Dec. 16.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said they partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in initiating the livelihood project socio-economic aspect of the government’s transport projects.
“Aside from the livelihood projects, we also provided job opportunities to all of those who would be affected,” said Bautista.
Under the DOTr-DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program, affected and qualified residents and vendors will receive P30,000 worth of rice, dressmaking, and food packages for small eateries as well as negosyo carts.
The EDSA Greenways Project aims to improve the pedestrian environment by building elevated pedestrian walkways along EDSA Balintawak and Cubao in Quezon City, Guadalupe in Makati City and Taft Avenue in Pasay City
Once completed, the EDSA Greenways Project will connect pedestrians and commuters to mass transit stations to help promote the use of public transport.
A total of 5,657 squater meters are set to be acquired for the project.
