DepEd vows to address 'recurring issue' on unremitted premiums, contributions
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday, Dec. 16, said it continues to aggressively look into “various ways to address” the subject of unremitted premiums and contributions.

Issuing a statement, DepEd said that the issue on unremitted premiums as well as contributions has been “recurring” --- spanning years caused by “system incompatibility and timing differences,” among others.
“DepEd will not stop seeking long-term strategies that are beneficial to our dedicated employees and workforce,” the agency said.
DepEd noted that beginning February this year, it has been conducting regular meetings with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to “thresh out all teaching and non-teaching personnel concerns.”
Last Sept. 25, DepEd noted that it signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the social insurance institution to “streamline services for our personnel.”
“Included in the MOA is the designation of GSIS account officers that will exclusively respond to DepEd matters,” DepEd said.
DepEd also noted that reconciliation activities with the GSIS are “now ongoing” at its Central, Regional, and Division levels.
Meanwhile, DepEd stressed that the Commission on Audit (COA) is also “well-aware” of the steps being taken to resolve this matter.
In the Consolidated Annual Audit Report, DepEd said that COA rendered an Unqualified/Unmodified Opinion in favor of DepEd which was deemed “first in the department’s history.”
