CEBU CITY — Two high school students died and four others were injured when the motorcycle they were riding in fell into a ravine in Barangay Garing, Consolacion, Cebu on Friday night, December 15.
The fatalities were an 18-year-old student from Barangay Yati, Liloan, Cebu, and his 16-year-old backrider from Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion, Cebu.
Four other backriders were injured.
Police Lt. Col. Verniño Noserale, chief of the Consolacion Police Station, said the six attended a Christmas party in the morning then went for swimming in a mountainous area in Consolacion.
It was around 6 p.m. when the group decided to go home aboard one motorcycle.
Police said the students did not drink alcohol in the mountain resort.
Lawmen said it was possible that the motorcycle’s brake malfunctioned and with five backriders, the driver lost control of the wheel while negotiating a downhill portion of the road.
According to witnesses, the motorcycle rammed into a tree before it fell into a ravine.
