Binangonan’s pro-environment Christmas Tree has earned recognition from the Rizal provincial government.

Aside from its colorful and attractive decoration, the giant Christmas Tree, which is situated beside the municipal hall in Binangonan, Rizal, was also recognized for its unique pro-environment features.

Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares cited Binangonan’s Recycled Giant Christmas Tree as one of the winners in the annual search for the best recycled holiday tree among the province’s 13 municipalities and one city.

The provincial government turned over three eco-tricycles to the Binangonan Municipal Government during a recent ceremony witnessed by provincial government officials.

Mayor Cesar Ynares said the recognition was the result of the concerted efforts of the local government employees and volunteers, including members of the Barkadahan ng Kababaihan sa Binangonan led by Dr. Rose Martha Callanta-Ynares, who all share the municipal government’s pro-environment initiatives.

“The recycled Christmas Tree of our municipality has undoubtedly become a symbol of our town’s creativity, sustainability, and community spirit.  In addition, it has been awarded for five years since 2016 by the Province of Rizal for its creative use of recycled materials, representing our dedication to environmental responsibility,” Mayor Ynares said in statement sent to Manila Bulletin.

The giant tree, made of recyclable plastics and non-plastic materials and measures around 30 feet, has become a famous attraction in the town not only for Binangonan residents but also for local tourists from nearby towns since it was constructed and unveiled to the public last month.

Hundreds of plastic bottles were used in the tree, the parts of which revolve and matched with changing lights.
