Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez led the payout to 2,244 beneficiaries of the "Tara Basa" tutoring program on Dec. 14 held at Barangays Don Bosco gymnasium and the Sto. Nino covered court.
Olivarez said the project, which is a cash-for-work initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), is a financial assistance program for college students and youth development workers.
He said the parents and guardians of elementary students belonging to indigent families are also part of the cash-for-work program.
The mayor said the beneficiaries will act as tutors of elementary students for them to learn to read better.
Olivarez thanked the DSWD for bringing the project to the city to help college students earn extra money for their expenses in school as well as the parent and guardian belonging to indigent families.
