DOH urges public to practice 'Ligtas na Christmas' guidelines as holiday nears
As the Christmas holiday is just around the corner, the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, Dec. 15, called on Filipinos to celebrate safely and responsibly by following its "Ligtas na Christmas" guidelines.

In a media forum held via Zoom, DOH Secretary Teodoro "Ted" Herbosa emphasized the importance of having a balanced and moderate diet, encouraging the public to adopt the "Pinggang Pinoy" as their guide.
He stressed limiting "Ma foods,” which stands for “maalat” (salty), “mataba” (fatty), and “matamis” (sugary), and opting for healthier choices like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as they are "more beneficial choices."
Herbosa also reminded the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and practicing regular exercise as a daily habit.
By aiming for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day can significantly improve overall health and well-being.
“Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is important, and limiting alcohol consumption,” the DOH chief added.
Adequate sleep is another key element of the secretary’s message.
As these unhealthy sleeping habits will eventually “get to you” he also cited that sleep deprivation can “negatively impact driving skills and overall judgment making it essential to prioritize rest during the busy holiday season.”
“Wearing masks in crowded or poorly ventilated areas is also recommended as a precautionary measure,” Herbosa said.
“Just stay at home if you are not sure to protect other people,” he added.
