Man stuck in ceiling after robbing pawnshop in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – A 25-year-old man who attempted to rob a pawnshop was arrested after he was stuck at the ceiling of the establishment.

Police identified the suspect as Juanito Branzuela Dilvo Jr., a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur living in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Police said the suspect broke into the Palawan Pawnshop on Wednesday night, December 13.

Dilvo gained entry through the ceiling of the pawnshop on Natalio Bacalso Ave.

After taking cash stored in drawers inside the pawnshop, the suspect tried to escape but was stuck in the hole of the ceiling that he used to gain entry.

Police Major Angelito Valleser, chief of the Labangon Police Station, said they received a call on Thursday morning, December 14, that a loud thud was heard inside the pawnshop.

The Labangon police rushed to the area and found out that there was indeed a man inside.

The Special Weapons and Tactics team was called after it was found out that the suspect took the firearm of the pawnshop’s security guard and was also armed with a grenade.

Police were able to convince the suspect to surrender after a brief negotiation.

Cash worth P5,000 was recovered from the suspect’s possession.

Dilvo admitted robbing the pawnshop to able to send money to his relatives in Negros.

The suspect admitted using shabu before robbing the pawnshop.
