FUJIAN, China—Filipinos and all other nationalities may now enjoy a 25 percent discount on their fee when getting a Chinese visa.
This came after the Chinese Foreign Ministry improved visa and entry policies for foreign nationals for cross-border travel as the country aimed to attract more tourists following the height of Covid-19 pandemic.
The discount started being implemented in all Chinese embassies and consulates across the world on Dec. 11, which will run until the end of the year.
"China welcomes measures aimed at facilitating cross-border travel. We stand ready to work with relevant countries to create favorable conditions and provide greater convenience for easy cross-border travel," Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the ministry, said.
At a dinner with Philippine media here, Xiamen’s municipal government foreign affairs office Deputy Director General Yao Jianhong said he was optimistic that more Filipinos would come to China.
He said he is also hopeful that better arrangements on visas between the Philippine and Chinese governments would be agreed upon as China also started implementing visa-free policy for more nationalities to reciprocate the same measure their countries undertook.
