CEBU CITY – The suspected drug pusher who fatally shot a policeman in a botched buy-bust operation was killed in a shootout with police in a mountain barangay in Talisay City, southern Cebu, on Wednesday, December 13.
Jenecy Rafols, 25, allegedly refused to surrender when police tried to serve an arrest warrant against him past 6 a.m.
The shootout happened in a far-flung area in Barangay Tapul.
Rafols was the suspect in the killing of Police Corporal Ryan Languido.
Languido acted as a poseur-buyer when he transacted with Rafols and his alleged cohort Ramil Salazar in an anti-illegal drug operation in Barangay Kinasang-an here on November 15.
The two drug suspects sensed that they were transacting with an undercover policeman and shot Languido before they fled.
Nearly a month after the incident, police were able to track down Rafols’ whereabouts.
The Intelligence Unit of the Cebu Police Provincial Office led by Police Lt. Col. Antonio Ananayo served the arrest warrant against Rafols.
Police said that instead of surrendering, Rafols fired at arresting officers with a .45 caliber pistol. Lawmen returned fire and hit Rafols while he was fleeing.
A policeman was wounded in the shootout.
Police arrested a couple who allowed Rafols to stay in their house.
Barangay Tapul Captain Mary Ann Nolasco said they did not know that there were people living in the area.
Nolasco said the area had no electricity and they did not expect that there were people living there.
She ordered the destruction of makeshift shanties to prevent people from living in the area.
