For foreign embassies in the Philippines, it is common to celebrate the independence day or national day of their respective countries of origin. For Thailand, last Dec. 5, was not just a celebration of its National Day but also that of their country's Father's Day and the birthday of its late King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great.
"His Majesty the late King has been internationally recognized by the United Nations with the first Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award since 2006," said H.E. Amb. Tull Traisorat of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in the Philippines. "Moreover, the United Nations General Assembly declared the 5th of December [as] the World Soil Day in acknowledgement of his lifelong work to improve soil conditions ensuring agricultural productivity, food security and sustainable development."
Amb. Tull Traisorat also emphasized the growing relationship between the Philippines and Thailand, noting that "two-way trade and investments" have increased "in trade volume to US$11.2 billion in 2022, surpassing the pre-COVID levels."
He added that tourism between the two countries has also grown, with the number of Filipino travelers to Thailand at a consistently high volume and with Thai tourists to the Philippines doubling in numbers post-pandemic.
"Thailand and the Philippines will celebrate the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations in 2024," the ambassador said. "We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders in 'sharing with each other, embracing new opportunities, and flourishing together.'"
This triple Thai celebration was held last Dec. 5 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati.
