Mayor Honey urges public to mask up amid rising Covid cases

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan urged the public to wear face masks in crowded places amid the rising cases of Covid-19.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Dec. 12, she advised the city residents to remain vigilant against Covid-19 as the Quezon City government recently elevated its health emergency status to "red alert."

The mayor stressed the need to continue wearing properly fitting face masks, washing hands frequently, staying in well-ventilated areas, and immediately isolating individuals who acquired Covid-19 symptoms.

Lacuna-Pangan also called on ManileÃ±os to heed the advice of the Department of Health (DOH) to wear face masks when taking public transportation.

Despite the lifting of the health protocols, the local chief executive reminded everyone that Covid-19 still exists with no less than high-profile personalities in politics having been infected recently, among them is President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. himself.

"This appeal especially goes for those who have comorbidities or are in the senior age group who are more prone to getting infected," she noted.

Since Christmas season is marked by crowded events and parties, she said that the risks of getting the infection are high, thus, the need to be extra cautious.

"Since attending gatherings cannot be helped owing to the holidays, at least be extra careful and wear a face mask," she added.
