Marcos declares Dec 26 special non-working holiday


President Marcos has declared Dec. 26 as a special non-working day nationwide. 

Marcos made the declaration through Proclamation No. 425 to "give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones."

The President said a longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism. 

"[A] longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a better society," Marcos said on the document dated Dec. 12.

"[A] longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism," he added.

The new declared holidays falls on a Tuesday, a day after Christmas Day which is observed as a regular holiday throughout the country.

The Chief Executive directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to issue the appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.
