Police Lt. Col. Manolo Salvatierra, chief of the Toledo City Police Station, said the incident happened around 4 a.m. inside the house of the Edoloverios in Barangay Talavera.
Salvatierra said that the victims were all asleep when the suspect, Kevin Avelis, 31, broke into the house.
Avelis destroyed the main door of the house then proceeded to the room where Zyphaniah and Navarro were sleeping. Once inside, Avelis repeatedly stabbed the two women with a kitchen knife.
The two women shouted for help that awakened Zorovavel, who was sleeping in another room. Zorovavel checked the commotion but he too was stabbed by the suspect.
A wounded Zorovavel managed to get a firearm. He fired at the suspect but missed, giving the intruder a chance to stab him again.
Navarro was able to run outside the house and sought help from neighbors.
Police arrived and found the father slumped in the kitchen and his daughter lifeless in a bedroom.
The suspect fled after the attack but was arrested in a hot-pursuit operation. Police said personal grudges were the motive of the attack as Zorovavel had filed a trespassing case against the suspect.
It was learned that the suspect was attracted to Navarro. The suspect reportedly courted Navarro but was turned down several times.
The suspect was allegedly using illegal drugs and he faces double murder and frustrated murder charges, police said.
