Leyeco III disconnecting fiber lines without permits

TACLOBAN CITY – The Leyte Electric Cooperative III will proceed with the disconnection of all fiber lines that have not obtained the necessary permits and complied with the standard pole agreement effective immediately.

It said this aims to maintain the reliability of services dependent on utility poles, improve aesthetics, and protect consumers from the risk of service interruption, electrocution, and fire associated with downed poles and electric lines.

"Leyeco III acknowledges the importance of high-quality broadband internet as a necessity in today's world. However, adherence to regulations and safety standards is paramount to the well-being of our community."

Last March, Leyeco III provided a grace period of until March 31, 2023, for all fiber internet providers to process their documents and secure permits in accordance with the standard pole agreement.

The agreement, facilitated through the joint pole agreement, ensures the proper and secure placement of attachments on electric cooperative poles with due consideration for rent.

"Regrettably, most providers have not yet complied with the stipulated grace period," Leyeco III said.

It cited National Electrification Administration (NEA) Memorandum Number 2018-055 which authorizes the standard pole agreement in their next course of action.
