Former ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio praised ONE Championship for putting together the weekly ONE Friday Fights inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, noting how it’s one of the best things that the promotion has done throughout 2023.

Aside from the weekly action-packed shows from some of the most ferocious strikers in the world, it has also become an avenue for young, budding athletes in the MMA sphere – giving them a good transition to the ONE main roster where killers in every division await.
For Pacio, there’s a big chance that someone who came up from the ONE Friday Fights roster will one day be better than him, knowing the kind of talent pool that the Philippines have when it comes to combat sports.
“It’s such a big thing for young and upcoming athletes, it’s a stepping stone for these fighters all over the world. Here we can see and unearth different talents,” he said.
“Looking at us, I believe that there are a lot of fighters here in the Philippines who could be so much better than us. This is their ladder, the ONE Friday Fights, a ladder that they can climb to showcase their skills to the world and level up their career.”
One guy who could get there soon is his good friend and former teammate in Carlo “The Bull” Bumina-ang.
The newest Team Lakay representative took his third win in as many fights in the weekly Lumpinee spectacle after knocking out Ilyas Dursun at ONE Friday Fights 44 last Friday, Dec. 8.
“The Bull” needed just 23 seconds to finish off the Turkish wrestler, connecting on a powerful left hook which left Dursun out cold, with only the Lumpinee ropes holding him back from hitting the stadium canvas.
That kind of power is nothing new for Pacio though, he’s seen it way before anyone outside of the famed training camp enjoyed it.
“Even before, I was already talking to him, telling him “what if you fight John Lineker?” but I’ve been telling him, that’s not a joke. I believe that will happen in the future,” he said.
“He’s from a boxing background as well, I know how heavy his hands are. Fans don’t really appreciate how heavy his hands are from afar, but once he connects, it’s over.”
The next step for Bumina-ang would be a move to the main roster, and the two-time World Champion believes the hard-hitting bantamweight is already on his way there.
“Of course I’m beyond proud to see him shine on this stage. I expect that with another win, he’ll enter the ONE Championship roster,” he said.
“I can’t wait to see him compete in the main roster of ONE Championship.”
