No extension of deadline for PUV consolidation — Marcos

President Marcos announced that the deadline for the consolidation of public utility vehicles (PUV) operators will not be extended.

Marcos said the government has decided not to extend the deadline of consolidation as 70 percent of all operators in the country have complied with the requirements to comply with the government's modernization initiative.

"Today, we held a meeting with transport officials, and it was decided that the deadline for the consolidation of public utility vehicles (PUV) operators will not be extended," Marcos said on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

"Currently, 70 percent of all operators have already committed to, and (are already) consolidated under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP)," he added.

The President stressed that they will no longer extend the deadline as the government cannot let the minority cause further delays to the modernization program.

"We cannot let the minority cause further delays, affecting majority of our operators, banks, financial institutions, and the public at large," Marcos said.

He pointed out that if the government follows the current timeline, the country would soon reap the benefits of the modernization effort.

"Adhering to the current timeline ensures that everyone can reap the benefits of the full operationalization of our modernized public transport system. Hence, the scheduled timeline will not be moved," Marcos said.

According to the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the deadline of the consolidation of PUVs is set on Dec. 31 this year.
