Avail of flu, pneumococcal vaccines, Eastern Visayas folk urged
TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas has urged adults 18-years-old and above to avail of flu vaccination.
It also asked individuals 45-years-old and above to avail of pneumococcal vaccine on December 14 and 15.
Jelyn Lopez-Malibago, DOH-8 information officer, said that they have received 10,000 vials of flu vaccines good for 100,000 doses.
"We have allocated and distributed to provinces and cities and they are also available in rural health units but they need to coordinate with them for their schedules," she said.
Malibago added that they also granted requests from non-government agencies, organizations, private institutions, hospitals, and other organizations to avail of these vaccines.
"To date, we have remaining 150 vials (1,500 doses) of flu vaccines in our regional cold room, which we hope to utilize within this week," she said.
Malibago said they have logged an increasing number of influenza-like illnesses in the region since it is the flu season.
"Aside from wearing masks, hand washing, observing cough etiquette, and ensuring well ventilation and isolation when sick, vaccination remains the best armor against influenza, pneumonia, Covid-19, and other respiratory illnesses."
