BUTUAN CITY – Nine New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the police and military in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Sur over the weekend.

Authorities identified them as “Sal,” 25; “Ger,” 53; “Ran,” 51; “Tor,” 44; “Mel,” “Jab,” 22; “Bel,” 22; “Jan,” 35, and “Bari,” 43.
These surrenderers vowed to help the government convince their comrades-in-arms to surrender and participate in peace and development programs being undertaken by government security forces.
They are currently undergoing debriefing in preparation for enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program where they can avail of livelihood and immediate cash assistance.
Surrenderers turned over guns, bullets, and explosives.
“We are redoubling our effort to end this communist-insurgency in this region,” said 4th ID Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief Army Major Francisco P. Garello Jr. and PRO 13-RPIO chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer.
Government agencies have laid down livelihood and reintegration assistance for these surrenderers to enable them to jumpstart new chapter in their lives through the E-CLIP, PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft said on Monday, December 11.
“Our call for the remaining Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members to surrender is reaping gains with the influx of surrenderers from their ranks,” Kraft added.
“We welcome our brothers and sisters who left the movement due to the false promises, bitter experiences, and upon sensing that there is no future in the armed struggle.”
