A minor and a fire volunteer were injured in a fire that razed over 100 houses in Happyland Tondo, Manila on Tuesday, Dec. 12.


The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said a 16-year-old girl lost consciousness due to asthma, while the injured fire volunteer was identified as Christian Gracio, 21. He sustained lacerations on his left arm.
The victims were given immediate medical attention and were brought to the hospital.
According to arson investigators, around 240 families or 1,500 individuals were affected, while close to P300,000 was the estimated cost of damage to properties.
They said that some of the affected families were temporarily evacuated to the covered court of Barangay 105 in Tondo.
The BFP said the fire was raised to the first alarm at 3:09 a.m. and escalated to the second alarm at 3:23 a.m.
The blaze immediately spread since the houses were made of light materials, the BFP said.
The fire reached the third alarm at 3:31 a.m. and escalated to the fourth alarm at 4:16 a.m.
Firefighters said the blaze was placed under control at 6:23 a.m. and was extinguished at 6:57 a.m.
Authorities are still investigating the origin of the fire.
