Police Major Ronald Santillan, Calatrava police chief, said the victim and his family were awakened by noise outside their house.
Dela Cruz went out to check and five unidentified armed men appeared and grabbed the victim and asked him to produce his firearm, Santillan said.
The suspects shot the victim in the head when he failed to show his gun and his family were told to stay inside their house.
The suspects fled and took the victim’s handheld radio, handcuff, and Identification (ID) card.
The victim was declared dead in a hospital.
Recovered from the crime scene was a fired cartridge case for a .45 caliber pistol.
Santillan said they are exploring all angles in the killing, including the possibility that it was insurgency-related or work-related.
