Envoys condemn China's repeated 'illegal, dangerous' acts vs PH vessels
Several countries have called out the China Coast Guard (CCG) after its vessels unleashed two water cannon attacks in a row against Philippine supply vessels in the West Philippine Sea over the weekend.

Japan, the United States, and the European Union condemned the repeated "illegal and dangerous" actions by CCG vessels against Philippine vessels, after deploying water cannon against M/L Kalayaan and Unaizah Mae 1 off Ayungin Shoal on Sunday, Dec. 10.
The ambassadors of these countries expressed concerns over the latest incident in the West Philippine Sea which followed a water cannon attack on three Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessels off Bajo de Masinloc on Saturday.
"Gravely concerned about repeated dangerous actions by CCG vessels against PH vessels. Japan stands with the Philippines in support of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific," Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko said in a post on X.
"Japan opposes actions that undermine the peace and stability in SCS (South China Sea)," he added.
US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson also condemned China's recent "dangerous actions" over a Philippine vessel.
"The US stands with the Philippines and partners in vehemently condemning the PRC’s (People's Republic of China) repeated illegal and dangerous actions against Philippine vessels, including disrupting the Philippine resupply mission to the Sierra Madre today," Carlson said.
She also stated that the "PRC aggression undermines regional stability in defiance of a free and open Indo-Pacific."
EU Ambassador Luc Veron called the recent water cannon attack of CCG to the Philippine vessel as a "deeply troubling" incident.
"Another deeply troubling incident today, water cannons used again," Veron said on X.
"UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) dispute settlement mechanisms maintain the rule of law. The 2016 UNCLOS Tribunal Award is a valuable framework for peaceful resolution. Water cannons and dangerous sea maneuvers aren't a legitimate alternative," Veron added.
On Sunday, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea reported that China's coast guard and militia vessels "harassed, blocked, and executed dangerous maneuvers" on the Philippine vessels which were conducting a routine resupply and rotation mission.
The water cannon attack caused severe damage to M/L Kalayaan's engines, disabling the vessel and endangering the lives of its crew.
