Mayor Honey leads groundbreaking of new school building in Malate
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new school building with 75 fully air-conditioned classrooms at Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in Malate, Manila, the local government said on Friday, Dec. 1.

Lacuna-Pangan was joined by the school authorities led by the school principal Randy Emen, Division of City Schools Superintendent Rita Riddle, Manila City Engineer Armand Andres, and Congressman Erwin Tieng during the ceremony held on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
According to Andres, the new six-story Guerrero building has a total floor area of 11,221 square meters.
Apart from having 75 fully air-conditioned classrooms, it will also have a library, computer rooms, a convertible hall and canteen, a clinic and infirmary, a lounge, and two elevator units.
"Sana, ang bagong gusaling itatayo dito ay maging inspirasyon ‘di lamang sa mga batang mag-aaral upang magsipag at magsikap sa kanilang pag-aaral, kundi maging sa mga guro na lalo pang pag-igihin at pag-ibayuhin ang kanilang gawain sa paglinang at paghasa sa kaalaman ng kanilang mga mag-aaral (Hopefully, the new building that will be built here will be an inspiration not only to the young students to work hard in their studies but also to the teachers to persevere and further improve their work in cultivating and sharpening the knowledge of their students)," Lacuna-Pangan stated.
She also asked the faculty members and staff to do their best to take good care of and maintain the facilities of the new building so future students may also use the building.
"Ito ay alay natin sa mga Batang Manilenyo. Bahagi ng ating mga hakbang patungo sa pagsasakatuparan ng minimithi nating isang Maringal na Maynila (This is our gift to the youth of Manila. This is part of our move towards the realization of our dream of a magnificent Manila)," she added.
She expressed the importance of education as one of the most valuable things that a parent can give to their child, which can serve as their foundation for a better and stronger future.
As the mayor believes that every child in the city deserves a chance to experience a quality education, she assured them that the city government is constantly coordinating with the Department of Education (DepEd) to continuously provide each student in the public schools with basic needs.
“Sa pamamagitan ng masinop at maingat na pangangasiwa sa pondo ng ating lungsod ay patuloy din tayong makapagpapa-ayos, mapagpapatayo, at makapag-papaganda ng mga pasilidad sa ating mga paaralan (through prudent and careful management of our city's funds, we can continue to repair, build, and improve facilities in our schools),” the mayor added.
