41 BSKE gun ban violators nabbed in Negros Occidental


BACOLOD CITY – A total of 41 persons were arrested for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban in the barangay elections in Negros Occidental.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office said six were arrested in Talisay City, Ilog town with five, Kabankalan City with four, three each in the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto and the cities of Himamaylan, Silay, and San Carlos;

Two each in the cities of Sagay, Victorias, and Bago and the town of E.B. Magalona, and one each in the cities of La Carlota and Sipalay and the municipalities of Candoni, Moises Padilla, Murcia, and Toboso.

Fifteen violators were arrested in police response, 11 in buy-bust operations, seven in checkpoint operations, four in “Oplan: Sita,” two through search incidental to arrest of wanted person, and one each via search warrant and search incidental to arrest of a crime.

Police nabbed the first gun ban violator in Negros Occidental in Sagay City on September 2 and most recent apprehension was reported in Silay City on November 20 also through police response.

The gun ban was implemented from August 28 to November 29 nationwide to ensure peace and order in the October 30 electoral exercise.
