ZAMBOANGA CITY – Thousands participated in the fourth quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) here on Thursday morning, November 9.

Joining the event were Zamboanga City Hall, other government agencies, schools, and private offices and establishments.
Participants performed the Duck, Cover, and Hold technique and went out of their buildings in an orderly manner as the alarm sounded.
Evaluators were posted at the Police Regional Office-9 in Mercedes, Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, Philippine Ports Authority, and other government offices to assess the compliance of participants in the protocol prescribed in the event of a major tremor.
The NSED is an activity of the city government of Zamboanga, the Office of the Civil Defense, and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology facilitated by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office. It is intended to prepare government employees in the event of a major earthquake or tsunami.
The activity coincides with the observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day.
