House Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro wants to get a categorical statement from Vice President Sara Duterte regarding the Department of Education's (DepEd) confidential funds under the proposed 2024 national budget.
Castro asked in a statement Thursday, Nov. 9.
(Why was the statement only for the Office of the Vice President? There was no statement from DepEd, does this mean DepEd Sec. Duterte would still insist on having confidential funds for her department despite it having noting to do with surveillance? )
In a statement Thursday, Duterte--the concurrent education secretary--declared that she "will no longer pursue" confidential funds since it was a divisive issue among Filipinos.

(She should be categorical with her statement and include the DepEd confidential fund. There are so many problems that she should address in the education sector. Hopefully focus would be given to the learning crisis, classroom shortage, and the additional salary and benefits for teacher.)
Under the P5.768-trillion General Appropriations Bill (GAB) or proposed national budget for 2024, P500 million worth of confidential funds were allocated to the OVP.
Meanwhile, P150 million worth confidential funds were earmarked for DepEd under the same spending plan.
The House leadership later removed these confidential funds and realigned them for the purpose of further securing the country’s interests in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
