From waste to wonders.

The Pasay City government led participating elementary, junior, and senior high school students in making costumes out of recycled materials on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

According to Mayor Emi Calixto-Rurbiano, the recycled costume making was a project of the Pasay City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD). It carried the theme: “From Waste to Wonders - towards a Sustainable ECO CITY.”

Rubiano said the project aimed to show the creativity of students in making costume from recycled materials and also to reduce waste, carbon footprint, and all kinds of pollution.

She said that by using recycled products, the participating students would also learn how to save Mother Earth.

“Others might think that this is just a showcase of creativity, but it is definitely more than that. Sa lahat ng mga costume na nailikha ng bawat contestants (in all the costumes that were created by the contestants), we were able to reduce waste, carbon footprint, and all kinds of pollution. Sa bawat produkto ng recycled goods,(for every recycled materials) we were able to help heal mother earth, one costume at a time,” Rubiano said.

The mayor said the winners in the elementary level were: 1st place - Andrea Faith Fortu from Bernabe Elementary School; 2nd place - Christian Dane Tabada from T. Paez Elementary School; and 3rd place - John Mark Uberas from Social Development Center.
