The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) recently organized a landfill management conference with European solution providers for sustainable waste disposal while conserving valuable resources.
During the conference last Nov. 7, GPCCI Executive Director Christopher Zimmer said that the “delegation will serve as a catalyst for increased collaboration within the waste management sector of both the Philippines and Germany."
"We are delighted to witness the continued strong interest from German companies and experts who visited the Philippines to exchange their expert solutions, foster partnerships, engage with potential collaborators, and assist waste management professionals and landfill operators in addressing the intricate challenges of waste management,” he said.
The Center of Excellence for Waste (CE4W) composed of prominent European solution providers, including Bomag GmbH, ICP Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering, Hofstetter Gastechnik AG, Naue Group, and WEHRLE have joined forces to assist waste management companies and landfill operators in tackling this intricate challenge.
These partners offer support to companies in various aspects of waste management, drawing on their extensive experience within the circular economy and waste-to-resources framework.
Solutions provided revolve around aiding in waste compaction to extend the operational life of landfills and maximize their financial returns; implementing sustainable leachate treatment methods to maintain consistently low operational costs; and harnessing landfill gas for additional revenue generation.
The primary objectives of waste treatment revolve around safeguarding the environment and conserving valuable resources.
CE4W said that inappropriate handling of waste will lead not only to public health risks but also financial burdens due to a lack of awareness about effective solutions.
