The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Bureau of Learner Support Services-Youth Formation Division (BLSS-YFD), in collaboration with Region III through the Schools Division Office of Zambales and World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature Philippines conducted “Camp Kalikaunan” as part of the initiatives of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O).

The three-day event, held in Zambales, will culminate on Nov. 12.

DepEd said the activity aimed to build and enhance the knowledge of selected learners on the country’s existing environmental policies and foster leadership skills with crucial critical thinking and engagement through learning sessions and focus group discussions.

The event, DepEd explained, also aimed to provide in-person opportunities for networking, dialogue, sharing, and collaboration of ideas, insights, and best practices on environmental initiatives among learners.

At the end of the activity, the learners are expected to craft an environmental plan of action.

Through this activity, DepEd and its partners expressed hope that the participating learners “reconnect” and increase appreciation of the environment.
