DAVAO CITY – Several barangays here were inundated on Wednesday night, November 8, after the Talomo-Lipadas River swelled due to heavy downpour caused by the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
Franz Irag, information officer of the Office of the Civil Defense-11, said that 42 families or 129 residents of Barangay Bago Aplaya, Barangay Ma-a, and Barangay Santo Niño were displaced due to flooding.
Irag said that the OCD-11 would continuously monitor the situation here in coordination with the city government and barangays.
He added that relief goods have been propositioned for the affected families.
Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte has suspended all classes in all levels, in public and private schools in affected barangays, including Bago Gallera, Bago Aplaya, Talomo Proper, Matina Aplaya, Ma-a, and Baliok in Talomo District, and Santo Niño in Tugbok District.
Duterte said that the city government is duty-bound to safeguard the welfare of the public and undertake measures to avert any untoward incidents or disasters that may be caused by the heavy downpour and subsequent flooding.
