Stand with Israel: Envoys react to Hamas attack

Foreign ambassadors from the 27 member-state European Union (EU) in the Philippines expressed their solidarity with Israel amid the surprise attack by Palestinian terrorist group Hamas over the weekend that has so far displaced over 123,000 people and killed 1,200.

EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Veron showed support to Israel in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The European Union Delegation is one with Israel in this devastating time. My thoughts are with the Israelis, the reported OFW victims, and all those whose lives have been affected by Saturday’s terror attacks,” he wrote.
He also shared a post by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which said that “The European Union stands with Israel.”
“Today, Hamas terrorists have struck at the heart of Israel capturing and killing innocent women and children. Israel has the right to defend itself - today and in the days to come,” she said.

EU’s official Facebook page in the Philippines also shared the EC’s post where the Israeli flag flies with the EU flag in front of its headquarters in Brussels.
“Hamas terrorists have struck at the heart of Israel capturing and killing innocent women and children. We deeply mourn the victims of these devastating attacks,” the post read.
French Ambassador to Manila Marie Fontanel also wrote on X about the devastation in Israel.
“Horrified by the terrorist attacks against (Israel) which (France) condemns with the greatest firmness. Support and solidarity,” she said.
The envoy also shared French President Emmanuel Macron’s post.
“I strongly condemn the current terrorist attacks against Israel. I express my full solidarity with the victims, their families and loved ones,” he wrote.

German Ambassador to the Philippines Andreas Pfaffernoschke shared a post by X account All about Germany.
“German Foreign Minister @ABaerbock warned of an escalation in the region following the major attack by Hamas. ‘These terrorist attacks now pose the incalculable risk of provoking a major regional escalation,’” the post read.
The surprise rocket barrage and ground, air and sea offensive were initiated by militant group Hamas from the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
Locals and foreign nationals have been taken hostage as the group strafed even residential areas.
Israel announced it is at war against the Hamas group, and countries have started evacuating their nationals from the country.
