ILOILO CITY — Police seized suspected shabu valued at P185.9 million in 954 anti-drug operations in Western Visayas from June 1 to October 31.
“This is more than twice in the amount of recoveries of the preceding five months,” said Police Brig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, Police Regional Office-6 chief, of the accomplishment, that was almost P100 million more than the P88 million shabu seized from January 1 to May 23 prior to his takeover as PRO-6 chief.
“These statistics only manifested the intention of the PRO-6 leadership to finish off the menace of illegal drugs in the region,” said Police Major Mary Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson.
Villaflor has made anti-drug operations a priority in the region comprising Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod since he assumed office on May 24
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) seized P64.85 million shabu in the four-month period, followed by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) with P57 million.
However, police sustained a fatality in the campaign when Police Staff Sgt. Michael Malan of the ICPO was killed by a drug suspect who resisted arrest during an anti-drug operation on October 29.
